Congratulations on your decision to become a follower of Jesus. You just made the best and most important decision of your life, and now that you are part of God’s family, here are a few important things you need to know. 

 

Tell Someone!

 

First, tell someone! Jesus said that we need to acknowledge Him before men, which means you need to tell others about your new-found faith. You can start by letting us know about your decision.

Second, it’s important to begin growing in your faith, which simply means that as time goes by, you want to get closer to God and not further away from Him. One of the ways you can get closer to God is by reading the Bible, which is God’s instruction manual for how we are to live our lives.

 

In addition to possessing a physical copy of the Bible (we recommend the English Standard Version translation, known as the ESV), there are many apps that make Bible reading easy. Third, we want to encourage you to begin praying, which is nothing more than talking to God and you can talk to God with your eyes open or with your eyes closed. And here are some things you can begin talking to God about. First, you can confess your sins to Him, i.e., tell Him when you mess up and ask Him to forgive you, and He will. Second, you can thank Him for the all of the blessings He’s given to you. Third, you can express your adoration of Him - we also call this “praise.” Finally, you can ask Him for the things that you need. Whatever you pray for, you will find that talking to God will draw you closer to Him.

Fourth, now that you’re a child of God, it’s important for you to be part of the family of God, and that means finding a local church to attend. Unfortunately, that’s not something you can easily do during these unprecedented times, so for now, regardless of where you live we want to encourage you to be part of an online church community!

 So we hope that you’ll begin taking these small steps to grow in your relationship with God. And when you do, you’ll fall more in love with Him, and you’ll be on your way to becoming the person that God wants you to be!
